The Black CSCS card is available for Managers who have achieved a Construction-related NVQ/SVQ level 5, NVQ/SVQ level 6 or 7.
This level of card is intended for Managers within the construction industry.
If you achieve an NVQ/SVQ Level 5, NVQ/SVQ Level 6 or 7 in Management, you will be eligible for a Black CSCS. This will show employers that you have the capability to Manage in a construction environment.
We offer a fast track program for those with ample experience and are looking to achieve it as quickly as possible.
This card is valid for five years and is renewable. You will need to pass the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment Test to renew your card. Even though your card will need renewing – your NVQ qualification will stay with you – it doesn’t expire.

Candidates unable to meet these requirements may still access Chartered Membership through the full Professional Review.
All our level 7 NVQs are assessed by a CIOB member which allows them to be fast-tracked.
Our NVQ Level 5, 6 and 7 assessments are carried out by a Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) assessor, which allows you to fast-track your CIOB membership.
After completing your NVQ and obtaining an updated Health and Safety test, you can apply for the appropriate CSCS card.
To determine which CSCS card you should apply for and which CITB Health, Safety & Environment test you need to pass based on your occupation, you can utilise the CITB CSCS Card Finder.
Once you have successfully completed your industry-recognised qualification you will be able to apply for other types of cards, from red to green, blue, gold and black. Remember, you need to have an NVQ level 5, 6 or 7 to apply for the Black CSCS card.
The Grandfather Rights Scheme is no longer available. You must now obtain the relevant NVQ and pass the CITB Health & Safety test to get a CSCS Card.
Yes, passing the CITB Health & Safety test is mandatory to obtain any CSCS Card.
This is a relatively new introduction, but it is required, all applicants for the Gold CSCS card will need to complete the CITB Supervisors Health, Safety & Environment Test.
